Walnut Signs

May 2013, April 2014

Coup {Garment Boutique}, at 10137 104th street in Edmonton, is not only unique in the city — it is unique in Canada. Coup is 1 of 3 North American retailers — and the only in Canada — invited to be an exclusive retailer of select Japanese brands. Co-owner Anna McDonough and her partner, Nga Va, carefully curate their shop with high-end pieces, creating a warm and friendly shopping experience. They have been featured in all kinds of fancy fashion magazines like Nuvo and Fashion for their taste and community involvement. We’re really proud of them.

We support Coup’s ethos 100% and were delighted when they asked us to design and fabricate a sophisticated sign that would appropriately capture their brand and fit with the 100-year-old heritage building in which Coup is located.

We started by doing a little research into the building and exploring its exterior. We found there were existing holes in the brick and decided to use them. We designed the solid walnut sign to look elegant and inviting. For the lettering, we headed to the University of Alberta to use their Computer Numeric Control (CNC) cutter, which was very fun. Here’s a video on CNC because it really is that cool.

Carson Integrated and partner LAT60 contacted us to make a walnut sign for them, too. Joining the 104 St Promenade in downtown Edmonton, you'll see the Carson/LAT60 sign on the Great Western Saddlery building. Be sure to check out both signs next time you're strolling through the area.
